Our Mission:

To make appropriate assistive technology accessible in

East Africa

The right assistive device can be an amazing thing. It can be a tool that allows children to go to school for the first time, adults to maintain a job, and people of all ages access to their communities. It can help to support a person’s long-term health, and even help them improve their health over time. The impact of an appropriate, quality assistive device can be lifelong and transformative.

Unfortunately, only 2% of people with disabilities in developing areas like East Africa have the assistive devices they need, and only a small proportion of the devices in use are appropriate for the situation. Most distributed devices were designed for environments and medical conditions that don’t match their use case at all, which is wasteful and sometimes dangerous.

Since 2021, Kyaro has been fighting to change this, to get assistive devices into the hands of people who need them and make sure that these devices are the right ones for the job. We design our own devices to meet our users’ needs, work with them to determine what devices will help them reach their goals, and support them as their needs change.

At Kyaro, we’re taking a new approach to designing and distributing assistive devices
