Our Approach

Responsible Distribution

Our devices are manufactured in Arusha, Tanzania using materials that are universally available in East Africa, ensuring that users will be able to maintain them long-term.

Local Production

We perform assessment, training, and follow-up according to internationally recognized standards for clinically sound assistive device distribution.

Collaborative Design

The design for our devices always begins with local device users, caregivers, and physicians. Each device is adapted to suit the environments and medical conditions that are common in East Africa.

Appropriate

Assistive devices are rarely one-size-fits-all. Our devices are prescribed and configured according to a thorough assessment process, which includes their dimensions, lifestyle, and goals. Each device is fitted and delivered by a trained professional to ensure that it is the right tool for the job and that the client knows how to use it.

Our Devices

Affordable

We design our devices knowing that many of the people who need them most are also some of the most disadvantaged in the world. That means we make every decision we can to maintain the lowest possible production costs for our devices while still producing a safe, complete, durable product. Generally, our devices are two to ten times less expensive than importing their closest international equivalent.

Inspiring

Social stigma around disability is intense in East Africa, to the point that many people would rather hide away than admit to themselves and the world that they are disabled. It doesn’t help that the assistive devices available to them often have intimidating designs that only separate them further from their community. In our design and manufacturing process we pay attention to the appearance of our products, and what message they send. We want to make devices that our users feel confident using and are proud to own.
